Phi-Lab Switzerland wants to support non-space actors in making their technologies space-ready. The webinar and facility list below serves as a guidance tool indicating where specific tests can be carried out, enabling users to validate and mature their technologies through appropriate testing environments. This service is intended to help organisations outside the space sector understand how and where to progress their technologies towards space qualification.
Quantum Sensing for Space Workshop
The Quantum Sensing for Space Workshop hosted at ESDI and co-organised with ETH Zürich Space, brought together leading experts from academia, industry, and institutional organisations to examine the potential of quantum sensor technologies for space applications, explore pathways towards commercialisation, and discuss how Swiss and European capabilities can contribute to advancing this emerging field.
Through focused discussions and collaborative working sessions, participants addressed key opportunities, challenges, and strategic priorities to support the transition from research excellence to real-world applications.
The insights and perspectives gathered during the event will contribute to an upcoming white paper, providing guidance on the development of impactful quantum sensing solutions for the future of the space sector.
Materials IQ: Materials & Surfaces for Space Future Technologies & Challenges
The event, co-organized by Phi-Lab Switzerland, Empa, and Swiss NTN Innovative Surfaces, brought together leading researchers, industry experts, and innovators to explore the latest advances in protective surfaces and innovative materials for space applications.
As space continues to grow in economic and strategic importance, participants discussed the increasing demand for materials capable of withstanding extreme radiation, temperature fluctuations, fatigue, abrasion, and corrosion. The discussions highlighted how the demanding conditions of space drive technological innovation, often setting standards far beyond those required for terrestrial applications.
By connecting cutting-edge research with Switzerland’s internationally recognized expertise in precision engineering and surface technology, the event fostered valuable exchanges, strengthened collaboration between academia and industry, and inspired new ideas for the next generation of space technologies.
